DHARAMSHALA: Kunchok Kyab, a 26-year-old Tibetan burned himself protesting against the repressive policies of China at Bora, Ladang in eastern Tibet’s Amdo region. He died on the spot.
He set himself on fire within the premises of Bora monastery at 12:00 pm local time yesterday (22 January), taking the self-immolation toll to 99 since 2009. His body was seized by Chinese authorities and taken to an undisclosed location.
Kunchok Kyab, son of Dorjee and Rinchen Tso, is survived by his wife and an infant child. He hails from Gyalring village in Bora, Ladang.
A heavy security has been deployed at the area following the self-immolation. Scores of monks from Bora monastery has also been detained by Chinese security officials.
Despite the Central Tibetan Administration’s consistent appeal to Tibetans not to resort to drastic actions, over 99 Tibetans have set themselves on fire calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans.
The Central Tibetan Administration urges the Chinese government to reform its failed policies in Tibet and address the genuine grievances of the Tibetan people.

A Tibetan man set himself on fire around 3:15 pm local time today at Khyungchu, Ngaba in an apparent protest against China’s repressive policies in Tibet. He died on the spot.
The self-immolator is identified as Tsering Phuntsok, son of Kyokpo Tsang, a resident of Drachen Yultso village in Khyungchu, Ngaba in north-eastern Tibet. Monks from the nearby Amchok monastery are reportedly performing the last rites for the self-immolator at the time of filing this report. Tsering Phuntsok is survived by his wife and two children.
Since 2009, a total of 98 Tibetans have set themselves on fire calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans. The Central Tibetan Administration reiterates its appeal to Tibetans not to resort to drastic actions such as self-immolations.

DHARAMSHALA: Tsebey, a 22-year-old Tibetan man set himself on fire around 1 pm local time today (12 January) in Sangchu region of Kanlho in eastern Tibet. He is the first Tibetan to set himself on fire protesting against the Chinese government in 2013. He died on the spot.
Local Tibetans took his body to a safe location before Chinese security authorities arrived. His body was later carried away to his home village, an eyewitness said.
