བལ་ཡུལ་དུ་དགེ་འདུན་པ་ཞིག་གིས་སྐུ་ལུས་མེར་བསྲེག

 Dharamshala, November 10: A Tibetan Buddhist monk, believed to be around 30 years old, set himself on fire in Kathmandu around 7 a.m today in an apparent gesture of solidarity to the spate of self-immolations by fellow Tibetans inside Tibet in recent months.


Bystanders at the time of the fire protest near Boudha stupa intervened and doused the fire leaving the monk, who cannot be immediately identified, partly injured.
A witness at the scene told Tibet Express correspondent that the monk was carrying a Tibetan national flag and raising slogans demanding “Free Tibet.”
A large crowd has reportedly gathered near the Stupa to offer prayers, today being a religiously auspicious and significant day for Buddhists (Tsechen Choenga)
“After the fire was doused, Tibetans whisked the monk away from the scene of protest before police came. They are now on the lookout for the monk,” the witness is quoted as saying.
The latest incident follows a day after appeal by a senior Tibetan spiritual figure Karmapa who urged Tibetans not to “give up their lives” and instead find other “constructive ways” to fight for the cause of Tibet.
A large number of Nepali police have been deployed near the Stupa following the latest incident of attempt to self-immolation, the 3^rd such incident in the Tibetan diaspora since last month.
In recent months, 11 Tibetans have immolated themselves in Tibet calling for a “Free Tibet” and the return of Dalai Lama. At least six Tibetans including two nuns have died while the condition of the five other Tibetans remains unknown.
