དཀོན་མཆོག་འཕེལ་རྒྱས། Konchok Phelgye

DHARAMSHALA: The Central Tibetan Administration today reiterated its deep concern and sadness over the worsening situation in Tibet, as one more Tibetan has self-immolated in protest against the Chinese government’s rule.
Kunchok Phelgye, 24, a monk of Dringwa Sumdo monastery at Dzoege in Ngaba, set himself on fire at Taktsang Lhamo Kirti monastery on Saturday evening. With folded hands, he called for the return of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama and Kirti Rinpoche to Tibet, and reunion of Tibetans in Tibet. He died on the spot.
Monks took his body to the monastery, where a special prayer service is being held.
The Chinese authorities have reinforced clamp down on the monastery and surrounding villages following the incident.
Kunchok Phelgye, son of Kunchok Kyab and Dolma Tso, was a native of Gonda Dewa village in Dringwa town. He joined the Sumdo monastery during his childhood and moved to Taktsang Lhamo Kirti Monastery in 2010 to pursue higher religious studies.
Today’s incident has pushed the total self-immolation to 93, including 80 in 2012 and 29 this November alone.
